Joe Borders, MFT

Welcome to my website! ^_^

Profile image of Joe Borders, MFT. A therapist providing counseling services in Roseville and the greater Sacramento area.

Have you been having trouble finding a therapist who feels like a good fit? Studies show that One of the most healing factors of any therapy is is the relationship, so its really important for you to find a therapist who you mesh well with, who gets you, and who you feel comfortable with.

That’s where I come in ^_^

There are some therapists who are stiff, rigid, impersonal professionals who are hard to connect to and feel supported by. That’s not me. I’m very real, open, and genuine with my clients and I strive to be an actual real, authentic person in the room so you can feel safe and supported in your time of need.

I’ve been offering therapy and counseling services to the greater Sacramento area since 2009 and opened up my own private practice in Roseville California when I became a licensed marriage and family therapist in 2014. Though I have experience and specialties in working in a variety of areas in mental health (see below), I broadly tell people that I specialize in working with people who expect to be or are used to being judged by others. I just don’t judge people for the things that make them different and I love working with people who need an ally/support in something that they feel othered in. If you are a teenager or think of yourself as weird, geeky, quirky, queer, anxious, LGBTQ, gender diverse, kinky, polyamorous, etc. there’s a good chance I’m the therapist for you! :-p

Give me a call or email me sometime.

I offer free 10-15 minute phone consults to talk a bit about what’s going on and to see if I might be a good fit.

Couples Therapy

I am trained in emotionally focused couples therapy which focuses on attachment, relationship patterns, communicating needs and emotions. In couples I help people explore their negative relationship cycles, the ways they get triggered with each other, and to more openly and vulnerably communicate in a way that makes them feel more connected with each other.
I’ve helped couples with:
