Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs in The Greater Sacramento Area
Sometimes people find themselves in a hard place with depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues and need more than once a week therapy. Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) and partial hospitalization programs(PHPs) are often an option that people turn to. These programs are a step above weekly outpatient therapy and a step below full hospitalization. If you or someone you love is in a hard place and is a danger to themselves or others then hospitalization is likely the appropriate course and you should call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
When people are not a danger to themselves or others and need a higher level of care, IOPs and PHPs are typically a good option. They allow people to continue treatment at a higher level while resuming/continuing a lot of their regular daily lives.
IOPs are day programs where people go to a facility to meet for therapy for several hours a day 3 or more days a week, while PHPs are essentially the same thing but with more hours in treatment each week. Often times these programs focus on coping skills, individual and group therapy, and skill building therapies like DBT and ACT.
There are many different kinds of IOP and PHPs in the greater Sacramento area, but sometimes it can be hard to find them all. This page is an ongoing collection of local programs that we will be updating as time goes on.

The Anxiety Treatment Center – PHP & IOP
The Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program is for individuals with moderate to severe levels of anxiety whose needs have not been effectively met through weekly individual or group therapy sessions. It is also for individuals whose symptoms significantly disrupt daily activities such as work, school and relationships, which can result in isolation and depression. Clients work individually with a behavioral specialist so that each person’s unique needs are addressed. This level of service we offer is highly rare and unique as you will find that most facilities offer limited one-on-one treatment and focus more on a group based approach.

Our intensive outpatient program provides recovery support ideal for those managing life and daily commitments outside of treatment. Clients in this level of care have the ability to sustain a daily routine and schedule, but have some awareness that a structured program is needed for them. Typically, one will have completed detox and PHP levels of treatment before beginning IOP.
This three to twelve month program meets three times per week for three hours each session and includes weekly individual case management sessions with highly credentialed staff. In this level of care, clients work on communication skills and develop more advanced levels of emotional regulation skills needed for relapse prevention. IOP clients are motivated to build and stay connected to their recovery community and are actively looking for ways to improve themselves and the lives of those they love.
