How Is SacWellness Different From Other Therapist Directory Sites?

I’ve understandably gotten a few people asking me how SacWellness is different from other sites like Psychology Today. I’d like to take this opportunity to run through some major differences.

We’re Cheaper

A listing on SacWellness costs only $17/month. That’s half of what many other therapist directories charge.

We Care

As part of our local therapist community, we really care about mental health, our community, and what’s going on in the greater Sacramento area. We’re dedicated to making SacWellness the best it can be. This differs from other sites like Psychology Today who are giant, far off entities that are concerned with expanding profits. Have you ever noticed that on your monthly Psychology Today bill there is a small extra charge for a foreign transaction? Yeah, they’re based in the Cayman Islands….which probably means they don’t pay any taxes. We’re putting everything we can into SacWellness. We’re dedicating 100% of proceeds towards advertising and making the site better in our first year…and after that it will continue to be a large percentage until we’re satisfied with the site and it’s ranking well in search engines.

We’re Responsive

We’re here to help! If you have any trouble or questions about the site, reach out to us and we’ll help you  out. We’ve already helped a few people set up their profiles, and we can help you too if you get stuck ^_^.

Our Listings Have More Useful Stuff

Listings on SacWellness have lots of features that other sites don’t offer you:

Featured Images

In addition to your profile picture, you can upload multiple photos to be displayed in a scrolling slideshow at the top of your listing. You can use this to show potential clients pictures of your office and/or materials you use in therapy.

YouTube Videos

Unlike many other directories, SacWellness lets you add a YouTube video to your profile. This is completely optional, but can really add something to user experience.

FAQs

Another unique feature on SacWellness is our FAQs section. On your listing you can choose to create FAQs for potential clients. These are displayed under your profile description and can answer questions like “what experience do you have”, “how can (insert treatment) help me?”.

Maps

Unlike many other therapist directories, we use Google maps on most of our pages. In some cases this isn’t really entirely needed, but we think it adds to user experience. When users search for therapists they can move their pointer over different therapists in the search results and their office locations will be highlighted on the map.

We’re Inclusive

SacWellness is dedicated to being inclusive and representative of all people in our community. On our site, users can search for therapists who speak a number of different languages and we cover diverse issues like gender identity, kink aware, polyamory/non-traditional relationships, racial issues, and sex positive therapists. Currently we are in the process of testing out some ideas on how to be inclusive of all genders on the site. We don’t want to shove anyone into a binary box of man or woman, so we have intentionally left out the ability for users to filter by gender. We are currently asking all therapists signing up about their gender identity so we can use a more inclusive search filter in the future if it turns out there is a demand for it.

We Won’t Ever Get So Crowded

We have systems in place to ensure that SacWellness will never get as crowded as Psychology Today. Therapists are limited to identifying up to 15 issues as their specialties. This helps prevent over saturation in any particular treatment issue. Sites like psychology today let you choose as many issues as you want. This creates situations where topics like depression have thousands of therapists. Limiting therapists to 15 issues makes them carefully consider which issues they want to identify as specialties.

Our site also offers users lots of ways to sort their search results so that they can get the most accurate responses. A user, for example, could search for therapists who accept Optum, are located in midtown Sacramento, work with gender issues, and practice EMDR. This further reduces over saturation. We also have Sacramento separated into different neighborhoods so that users can search those specific areas and further reduce potential over saturation that would occur if we just lumped all Sacramento therapists under the category for Sacramento.

We’re Local

Unlike global directories like Psychology Today, SacWellness is designed specifically to serve Sacramento and surrounding areas. This gives us a chance to rank higher in search results because our site is more relevant in searches looking for therapists in our area. We’re really committed to making SacWellness the go to resource for finding therapists in the greater Sacramento area. Joining other therapist directories gets your information in front of potential clients, but, when you join SacWellness you do more than just that. Joining SacWellness means you connect to your local therapy community and contribute to something we’re building for our community at large.
